The Sony Alpha A7C Has Been Officially Announced

Today Sony has officially announced their Alpha A7C Full Frame Mirrorless Camera. A more detailed preview with the full press text can be found here.

Below are some preview videos from various YouTube channels.

Now this body isn’t what I was expecting. I thought this would be a more entry level orientated body with a lower price than what Sony has given. Some highlights from the specs are:

  • 24MP Full Frame backside illuminated sensor
  • 5-axis image stabilization
  • Low weight of 509g
  • Still features the NP-FZ100 type battery
  • 0.59x magnification viewfinder
  • $1798USD/$3199AUD

Now the part I find interesting is that it costs more than the A7III which you can get for $2899 from the same retailer that the A7C quoted price is from. This may not seem like a strange thing as it’s new but considering the A7C still has a low resolution EVF, low resolution rear screen, single UHS-II card slot and old menu system, it should be MUCH cheaper.

I’m sure this body would be appealing to those who prefer the A6600 style body and lighter weight. For me, the higher price tag with few improvements over the A7III wouldn’t justify the cost.

One thing concerning is that I think the price of the A7IV when released will be quite a bit higher, probably around $2499USD/$4338AUD to compete with the Canon EOS R6. If this is the case, I doubt I’ll be able to afford one at that price and would rather switch back to Canon than use the A7C.

Is the Sony A7C a body you plan to get? Or like me, do the specs not justify the price tag? Make sure to leave a comment below and subscribe if you’d like to be notified whenever I release a new post.
