Below is a glossary of common photography terms and their abbreviations

ETTR: Expose to the right

DOF: Depth of field

DR: Dynamic Range

Drag the shutter: To use a slower shutter speed

G.A.S/Gear Acquisition Syndrome: You have the uncontrollable urge to buy all the newest gear

Push the highlights/shadows: To increase the highlights or shadows

Pull the highlights/shadows: To decrease the highlights or shadows

Stop Down: A commonly used term when reducing the aperture to a lower f/ value (larger number)

SOOC: An image straight out of camera with no processing

Wide Open: Shooting at a large aperture such as f/1.4 (smaller number)
