In very exciting news Canon has made an official development announcement of their EOS R5. There has been so many leaks about this body which I covered in the TPE Podcast last week. So far some of the confirmed features are:
- New CMOS sensor
- Dual Card Slots
- 20fps continuous shooting with silent shutter and 12fps in mechanical shutter
- 8K video
- IBIS
The video at the top of the page shows the rear of the camera. This helps to confirm a fully articulating screen and joystick that appears to be similar to the 1DX Mark III. The details around the sensor resolution, dynamic range and Autofocus are not yet known.
PetaPixel and DPReview have both released articles detailing the new body and video coverage can be found below.
Two things I am very interested to find out is if there is zero blackout like the A9 and how well the AF performs. My guess is that if Canon has included such a fast burst in continuous shooting, it would make sense to have an Autofocus system that can accurately keep up.
No release date or pricing has been announced but rumors do suggest we will see a release during Summer 2020 (in the northern hemisphere that is). Canon also announced the Rebel T8i and some more RF lenses with 7 more expected to drop in 2020.
Do you plan to get a Canon EOS R5? Does this body look like something you would buy? You can also subscribe using the form at the bottom of the page if you want to be notified whenever we make a new post.
